IMS Research Rounds

November 28 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Please join us for breakfast as we hear from our fellow IMS researchers on their research in Neurodegenerative Disease Research!

When: Thursday, November 28th, 2024, from 9am – 10:30 am
Where: C. David Naylor Building – Room NL 203

Presenters:

Nafia Mirza –  Nafia is a first-year PhD student at the IMS, and she just completed her MSc. Her Master’s thesis focused on administering an executive functioning test called the Porteus Maze Task (PMT) in the MRI using an MR-compatible tablet, which simulates pen-and-paper conditions via augmented reality display. The aim of this study was to investigate how brain activation during executive functions is different in healthy and pathological aging, such as in Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Earvin S. Tio Earvin is a 5th-year PhD candidate at the IMS and a member of CPIN. His research focuses on uncovering neuroimmune mechanisms that underlie suicide by leveraging large cohort studies and machine learning.

Cathlyn (Yihan) Chen Cathlyn is a first-year MSc. Student and she investigates structural brain changes in older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Major Depressive Disorders (MDD) in the PACt-MD randomized controlled trial. In this trial a combined intervention of cognitive remediation and transcranial direct current stimulation was administered to older adults with MCI and MDD as potential preventive treatments for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Catelyn is aiming to understand the neural effects of this preventive approach.

This is an in-person-only event! Please register here and spread the word!

Registration deadline is November 28th
